What is a Commission?
A commission is the perfect oppurtunity to have a Violin , Viola or Cello handcrafted to your tastes and specifications. Each instrument is personally crafted by me and I will make commissioning of your instrument very simple.
As a U.S. violin maker I know the importance of finding the right luthier to make your special instrument. It is similar to a person having a house built and finding the right architect and contractor to carry out their ideas and goals. It is one of those things that is very personal and satisfying.
As part of my commissioning service it is important for me to find out your needs as a musician and what you expect from your instrument. This is important as different patterns will produce different sounds and respond differently. There are so many perimeters to the construction of an instrument so choosing the right pattern is essential as is the wood. In short, here's how we can get your commision started:

1. We will have an initial discussion to cover the details of what you are looking for in your commission.
2. Our discussion will cover items like wood selection (one or two piece back, figure type etc.), the final look of the instrument, any special and personal artistic additions that you would like included as a part of crafting your instrument.
3. As I get close to completing your instrument and the Varnish begins to take color, we will talk often to ensure that we are achieving the color you desire.
4. We'll talk about set-up details such as neck dimensions, string types, string heights and spacings and also Pegs, Bridge, Sound Post, Tail Piece, Button, and Chin Rest.
Upon delivering your instrument to you, I will work aside you to make any necessary adjustments to make sure that your instrument performs to its absolute best!
